About Vinyl flooring

Cushioned sheet vinyl for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms — waterproof, warm underfoot, and fitted to last.

Where it works best

  • Kitchens and utility rooms
  • Family bathrooms and en-suites
  • Downstairs WCs
  • Boot rooms and rear porches
  • Garage conversions and play areas
  • Rental and buy-to-let properties

How we fit it

  • Home visit and subfloor check — Sheet vinyl shows every bump, so we survey the subfloor carefully and flag any preparation — levelling compound, ply or damp-proofing — at the quote stage.
  • Samples and roll selection — We show you full-size samples of the patterns that suit your scheme, and pick a roll width that keeps seams out of sight.
  • Written quote — Quote covers vinyl, ply or self-levelling if needed, uplift, fitting and trims — no surprises later.
  • Subfloor preparation — Plywood is laid and screwed down, or the existing floor is patched and levelled so the finished vinyl lies perfectly flat.
  • Fit day — Sheet is cut precisely to the room, bonded or edge-gripped depending on the product, and seams are chemically or heat-welded where required.
  • Handover — We walk through the room with you, leave care notes, and take the old flooring away.

FAQs

Vinyl questions, answered.

Is sheet vinyl still fashionable?
Modern cushioned vinyl has moved a long way from the patterns our parents had. Today's ranges include realistic wood, stone and herringbone effects with convincing texture. It remains the most practical floor we fit for kitchens and bathrooms.
Vinyl or LVT — what's the difference?
Sheet vinyl is a continuous roll, cushioned, and effectively seamless. LVT is individual tiles or planks with a rigid construction. Vinyl is warmer, quieter and cheaper; LVT is thicker, more authentic-looking and generally more durable. For a family bathroom we'd often steer you to vinyl; for a through-kitchen, LVT.
Do I need plywood underneath?
On floorboards, yes — we overlay with hardboard or 6mm ply so the grain doesn't telegraph through. On a clean concrete subfloor or good existing screed, a skim of levelling compound is usually sufficient.
Can you fit vinyl over underfloor heating?
Most modern cushioned vinyls are UFH-compatible up to around 27°C surface temperature. We check the specific product's tolerance and the heating system's maximum before specifying.
Will there be visible seams?
In rooms up to 4m wide, no — we'll use a full-width roll. In larger rooms we plan seams along walls or cabinet lines and, where the product allows, heat-weld them for a watertight finish.
How long does vinyl last?
A properly fitted quality sheet vinyl will give ten to fifteen years in a family kitchen before you want to change it for aesthetic rather than durability reasons. Manufacturer warranties typically run ten years domestic.
